Police Services Study Committee Seeks Input from Area Residents

Project Kick-Off Meeting Open to the Public

 

Hudson Falls, NY —- The Village of Hudson Falls, NY is commencing a 9-month study of police services in the area. In 2012, the Village received a grant through the NYS Department of State’s Local Government Efficiency program to conduct the study, and appointed a Study Steering Committee to lead the study. The Village recently selected a team comprising Rondout Consulting of Kingston, NY and Fairweather Consulting of New Paltz, NY, to provide technical assistance to the Study Steering Committee.Over the next several months, the Project Steering Committee and its consultants will develop a police services study and plan for the Village of Hudson Falls. The study will examine current characteristics of police services, and identify options available for reducing costs while improving the delivery of regional police services. To answer questions about the study and begin gathering input from local residents, the committee is holding a Public Kick-Off Meeting at 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 28th, at the Village Hall, 220 Main Street in Hudson Falls. All are welcome and encouraged to attend this first of several public meetings regarding the study.The Public Kick-Off Meeting is designed to dispel myths about the study process and encourage public involvement in this important study. “Even though we’re just getting started, this is a critical point in the study,” according to Tim Weidemann, one of the project consultants. “Some residents may be skeptical or concerned about this project, and there is often a lot of confusion about a study like this. By providing an early opportunity for residents to ask questions and provide input, we hope we can develop a study that really speaks to those concerns, answers those important questions, and provides some clarity about the study process and its impacts,” Weidemann added.In addition to the Public Kick-Off Meeting, the committee plans to hold several public meetings throughout the project and has launched a project web site that contains a calendar of meetings, study and meeting documents, and a contact forum that allows to provide their input.
